Working from home on the increase
As the economic climate worsens for many, with job loses on the increase, many are looking for ways to work from home. However, there are companies out there who already encourage working from home as a normal practice.
Some leaders in industry are already implementing this as a standard practice.
“Already, almost half (45pc) of SME senior executives in telework from home at least one day a month. This shows a significant increase from 2004, when 25pc teleworked from home.
The study, which surveyed over 300 senior managers in businesses nationwide employing between 1 and 250 people, also revealed that some 28pc of senior SME managers now work from home at least four days a month.”
Of course not all jobs can be done at home but with the advance of technology more and more workers are able to take their work home.
“With more SME senior managers working outside the office, the use of mobile broadband has also seen a significant increase, with the numbers using this jumping from 12pc in last year’s survey to over a third (34pc) today.”
This of course is good for the ‘internet service providers’ and related services industry as a whole as well as those who work at home.
According to research carried out for O2 Ireland by TNS mrbi the trend is upwards.
“Over a fifth (22pc) of senior managers in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ireland expect to increase teleworking from home over the next 12 months”
