My first sighting of the Red Admiral butterfly today, so distinctive with its red bands and white spots on wing tips. We’ve seen many Large white butterflies this year flitting here, there and everywhere, not until today did we see any evidence of other butterflies here in our garden here in Essex.
Red Admirals seem to enjoy nectaring on Buddleias as you see here in the photo, however this was a fleeting visit so I was lucky to even get this shot. Maybe it will return for another feed. The female of the species prefers nettles so I am hoping that leaving a bunch of nettles at the back of the garden will encourage one or two.
