Photograph through glass

It may be summertime here, but has anyone let the weather know. So far we have had so few days of warm sunny weather; no fun for the poor holiday makers nor parents with kids off school. Today we had some sun, hail, rain and wind. As you can see from the photo below, rain on my window pane around 3pm  today. So, a photograph through glass.  Where have those long hot summers gone?

Despite the rain the camera was out for another reason, taking photographs of spiders that seem to be abundant in the house. I am not fond of these  creatures however they are good subjects to practice some photography techniques on.

Photos through glass

Taking a photograph through a glass pane is not that easy. There is the problem of reflection. The best way I have found to avoid this  is to move round and take a shot from an angle and not head on as you will most probably see your own reflection. This angle shot may or may not work every time. The other problem is that the image tends to look smudged, not crisp. In this example I am not too disappointed as it adds to the ‘raindrops’ that are visible on the window pane and the rainy day effect. The tree in the photo is a small olive tree I have had for a few years now and if you look closely you will see some small olives. Hopefully this year the olives get big enough to cure.
