Windows 8 Upgrade
I am a very happy user of Windows 7, however as I bought a new computer this autumn (the old beast just couldn’t handle the daily tasks any more) I became eligible for the Windows 8 Pro upgrade offer that runs out the end of Jan 2013. Time to take the bull by the horns and make the change before the offer runs out and I get too busy with the run up to Christmas.
Windows 8 Installation
Installing win 8 pro took a while, 10 minutes or so, with a few computer restarts, (preparations and getting devices ready), then eventually you see a selection of colours to choose from to personalise your screen, a connection to your network so have your connection details handy – including your password and finally choose the Express settings. Then comes the option to sign in to Windows if you so wish (I chose not to do so at this moment in time). Eventually we get to the controversial Windows8 Start screen. Hmmmm….
Windows 8 Start Screen
Do I like it? Colourful, pretty! Functional? I am used to a Windows 7 sombre, functional desktop, instead I see a Start screen with lots of colourful flickering icons. The icon I like most here is the one on the bottom left hand corner – Desktop – now this takes me to my old style Windows display. With a right-click these icons can be customised or turned off. From what I have seen so far it’s just a matter of orienteering, re-learning the navigation. If you already use a smartphone or an ipad or tablet the functions feel a bit familiar and the icons you can drag to place where suits you best. So far so good, but now for as bit of playtime to familiarise my self with my new Windows 8 and see if I will like this new way or working on my pc.
More to come so watch this space….
Windows 8 Ycademy Seminar
There’s more to the new Windows8 than meets the eye at first glance. This coming weekend I will be attending a seminar that will be focusing on the new Microsoft release as well as working with Adobe Illustrator. A full weekend again! Lots of information and loads to inspire us all and keep us going well into 2013 that is only a few weeks away!
